Havelock island is the largest island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Havelock Island is famous for its pristine beaches, coral reefs and great scuba diving experience. Havelock is the most visited island in Andamans and it is about. The island is named after Maj Gen Sir Henry Havelock, a prominent British Army official during colonial times. The island is mostly populated with people hailing from India; Bengalis are bulk of the settlers. Although Havelock is the most visited island, ill-effects of tourism has been isolated the island. But still the island retains its pristine charm. Havelock Island is a cluster of small islands known as Ritchie’s Archipelago which is 30km east of Great Andaman. Government encourages tourism and also focuses on eco-tourism in the Havelock Island.

Activities to do at Havelock Island in Andaman

Havelock Island is renowned for its pristine beaches. The most beautiful beach in Havelock is the Radhanagar Beach which was entitled the ‘Best Beach in Asia’ by Time in 2004. Other enthralling beaches are Elephant Beach and Vijayanagar Beach. Scuba diving is the most popular activity on Havelock Island. Scuba diving activities are run by certified instructors or operators who will give
instructions and equipment. Snorkeling like scuba diving instructors, training and equipment is available on the beach. Along with scuba diving and snorkeling, trekking is another activity which is attracted by foreign tourists as well as Indian tourists. About 800meters from Vijaynagar Beach, is famous with confluence hunters. They are people who document places where latitudes and longitudes meet with the help of GPS enabled equipment.

Best time to visit Havelock Island in Andaman

The best time to visit Havelock is during the months of October to May when the weather is very pleasant. It is a good decision to not travel to Havelock during monsoon, months from August to November.
